Highlights of JASIS 2025

             

Introduction

I am Hisashi Iwase, Life Science Innovation Advisor of the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (JAIMA) and President & CEO of BioDiscovery, Inc.

In the latter half of the 20th century, chromatographic and mass spectrometry technologies made immeasurable contributions to drug discovery research and pharmaceutical manufacturing development. Furthermore, the advancement of analytical instrumentation and analytical chemistry over the past two decades has played a major role in the rapidly evolving field of biosciences. The progress in life sciences began with innovations in the late 1980s that unraveled the structure and function of genes and proteins. Since the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, the field has been accelerating toward practical application, supported by developments in ICT. Now, with the remarkable advancement of AI technologies, we are on the verge of yet another transformative era.

Highlights of JASIS 2025

At JASIS 2024 held last year, we successfully returned to pre-pandemic scale, matching the number of exhibitors and participating companies seen in 2019. It also marked the launch of a new Japanese academia-industry collaboration program aimed at global engagement.

Continuing from last year, JASIS 2025, to be held this September, will focus on automation and accelerating digital transformation (DX) across the event. In the life sciences field, we are proud to announce a special program on AI-driven drug discovery, inviting Professor Jacques Corbeil from Canada’s MILA Institute, a global leader in cutting-edge AI research.

Other notable highlights include: future-oriented initiatives by the newly established Tokyo Institute of Science and Technology (merger of Tokyo Tech and Tokyo Medical and Dental University), the 4th joint seminar with the Society for Biotechnology, Japan, cutting-edge research updates from Tohoku University, new sessions on livestock bio-reproduction topics, and an accessible lecture on intellectual property in pharmaceutical R&D as part of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia Seminar. We expect strong attendance and enthusiastic participation in this rich lineup of topical seminars.

Hisashi Iwase

Hisashi Iwase

Life Science Innovation Advisor at the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (JAIMA), and President & CEO of BioDiscovery, Inc.
Born in Tokyo in 1951. Graduated from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Nihon University. Mr. Iwase has led management and marketing in analytical and bioscience instrumentation at Merck Japan, Nihon Waters, Nihon Millipore, Nihon PerSeptive, Applied Biosystems, Varian Technologies, and Agilent Technologies. He founded BioDiscovery Inc. in 2001 and has served as JAIMA’s Life Science Innovation Advisor since 2013.
