JASIS 2026: Life Science Highlights
Introduction
My name is Hisashi Iwase, Life Science Innovation Advisor at the
Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (JAIMA)
and President & CEO of BioDiscovery Inc.
In pharmaceutical development during the latter half of the 20th century, chromatography and mass spectrometry made immeasurable contributions to drug discovery research and pharmaceutical manufacturing and development. Advances in analytical instrumentation and analytical chemistry have also played a major role in the rapid progress of the biosciences over the past two decades.
Beginning in the late 1980s, the life sciences entered an era of technological innovation aimed at understanding the structures and functions of genes and proteins. Since the completion of the Human Genome Project was declared in 2003, advances in information and communication technology (ICT) have further accelerated both scientific progress and practical applications. Today, the remarkable development of artificial intelligence is driving yet another major transformation across the life sciences and many other fields.
Highlights of JASIS 2026
As in the previous year,
JASIS 2026,
scheduled to be held in September, will feature a range of programs designed to accelerate digital transformation (DX), particularly through automation, while also placing greater emphasis on education and professional development.
The exhibition venue itself is also being redesigned to encourage greater communication between visitors and exhibitors. JASIS 2026 will place an even stronger focus on human resource development and education, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a learning environment that engages all five senses.
In the life science field, particular emphasis will be placed on pharmaceutical development and food science. A Topics Seminar will explore the relationship between analytical technologies and CDMOs, which are playing an increasingly important role in pharmaceutical development.
In addition, a seminar organized in cooperation with
The Society for Biotechnology, Japan
will be held at the International Conference Hall.
The exhibition area will also introduce several new initiatives. A new “Co-Creation Corner” will be established on JASIS Street, including an “Issues Board” designed to encourage participants from both inside and outside the industry to share challenges and explore potential solutions.
The popular “Choco Lab” program will also return this year, with “fermentation” selected as its theme. The area will feature information boards as well as mini-seminars organized with the cooperation of
The Society for Biotechnology, Japan.
With a wide variety of timely and engaging topics once again planned,
JASIS 2026
is expected to attract many visitors from the analytical science, scientific instrumentation, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food science communities.

Mr. Hisashi Iwase
Life Science Innovation Advisor at the
Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (JAIMA),
and President & CEO of BioDiscovery Inc.
Born in Tokyo in 1951. Graduated from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, College of Science and Technology, Nihon University.
His career in the management and marketing of analytical and bioscience instruments includes positions at Merck Japan, Waters Japan, Millipore Japan, PerSeptive Biosystems Japan, Applied Biosystems, Varian Technologies, and Agilent Technologies.
He founded BioDiscovery Inc. in 2001.
Since 2013, he has also served as Life Science Innovation Advisor at the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers’ Association (JAIMA).
