4D Bioprinting for Dynamic Living Systems: Transforming the Future of Biomedical Scaffolds

Date: Wednesday, 19 November 2025 — 10:00 (CET), 14:30 (IST), 17:00 (SGT)

Speaker: Dr. Kaushik Chatterjee (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore)

Webinar Overview

This webinar explored the emerging field of 4D bioprinting, a technology that integrates the time dimension into traditional 3D bioprinting to create smart, shape-morphing scaffolds.
These dynamic structures respond to environmental stimuli, enabling new approaches to biomedical applications and tissue engineering.

A central focus of the session was the transformation of sericin—a silk protein often discarded in textile manufacturing—into a powerful biomaterial for regenerative medicine.
The webinar also introduced advanced DLP-based techniques using the BIONOVA X bioprinter to fabricate hydrogels and scaffolds capable of programmed shape changes, opening new possibilities in deployable tissue constructs and soft biomedical devices.

Key Learning Points:

  • The fundamental principles and potential of 4D bioprinting in biomedical applications
  • Designing bioinks for dynamic shape-changing hydrogels using DLP bioprinting technologies
  • The role of smart scaffolds in tissue engineering, soft robotics, and regenerative medicine
